Valerie Gillies is a poet who received a Creative Scotland Award to travel and write her book, The Spring Teller, about the springs and wells of Scotland and Ireland, their folklore, history and landscape, and how they continue to be visited by people today.

The Edinburgh Makar from 2005 – 2008, Valerie is a writing instructor in schools, universities, and the hospital arts. Currently she facilitates the Creative Writing and Journaling Workshops at Maggie’s Cancer Centre, Edinburgh. She is an Associate of Harvard University.

Her most recent book is The Cream of the Well: New and Selected Poems,published by Luath, Edinburgh, 2015.
